Not your mothers Dupont.
It’s Monday and I’m on the dauntless quest for Zombie Prom tickets. After picking up my tickets at Masquerade I decided to visit my favorite cd store Digital Ferret to pick up a cd. I’ve been a big Noisex supporter since my early years (Noisex being the project that got me into industrial music) so finding out Raoul had a cd out that was not part of my collection was a bit of a shock. So I continued my quest to Digital to pick up Noisex “Schlag 13†only to find out that the cd had never actually come out. I was thoroughly disappointed so I decided to look around the shop a bit and find something new.
After about 20 seconds of searching the new releases rack I found the new Dupont “Entering the Ice Age.†Joe (Digital Manager) had mentioned that it’s not like old Dupont, but still good. Joe has never done me wrong so I bought it. As a interesting side note, if you find yourself wanting new music talk to Joe at Digital. On to the ride home, cd playing...
The first track “Run for Protection†has a nice brass section and an amazing beat, at this point I’m hooked. For the most part the entire album doesn’t have the same aggressive feel as previous releases. It seems more relaxed, closer to synthpop. I’m not saying this is bad it’s just really different. After listening to the album several times, what really got to me is the repetitive nature of the lyrics. The lyrics are repeated over and over “Entering the Ice Age, Entering the Ice age, Entering the Ice Ageâ€; in all honesty I don’t like it.
If you listen to the album from the first track to the last in succession you may get a little tired of the repetitive lyrics but individually each track is really good. After listening to it a few times I think the first track “Run for Protection†is the best track on the album. All in all the entire album is good you just have to get passed some of the repetitive lyrics. 4 out of 5
